Overview:
The Master of Education is an interactive online program that allows you to work with leading-edge technology and to be part of an international, dynamic, collaborative learning environment.
The Master of Education (MEd) is unique and at the leading edge in both its objectives and approaches to learning online. The program addresses the most recent issues involving digital technology, leadership, curriculum and adult education. Collaborative learning, co-construction of knowledge, peer tutoring and personalization are key approaches used in this program by professors with diverse research backgrounds in educational technology.
Admission requirements
- Hold a four-year honours undergraduate degree, or a three-year university degree and a Bachelor of Education degree, from a Canadian university or their equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum overall academic standing of a B (GPA: 3.0 on a 4.3 scale or 73 to 76 per cent), with a minimum B average in the last two full-time years (four semesters) of undergraduate work or equivalent.
Admissions for Bachelor of Education (BEd) graduates:
- The Faculty of Education is offering guaranteed admission to our Online Master of Education course-only program for students who have graduated from our BEd program with a GPA of 3.7 (A-) or higher and who meet the entrance requirements for graduate studies at Ontario Tech. Spots may be limited and will be offered on a first come, first serve basis to candidates who meet the requirements.
Master of Education - Course-only
Our Master of Education (MEd) course-only option consists of 10 courses, each with a value of three credits, for a total of 30 credits.
You are required to take 2 Core Education courses:
- EDUC 5001G - Principles of Learning
- EDUC 5002G - Introduction to Research in Education
You then choose 8 courses from ANY one of our 5 themes:
- Education and Digital Innovation
- Innovative Leadership in Education
- Critical Exploration of Learning
- Mental Health and Wellness
- Equity and Inclusion
You can also develop your own course (EDUC 5901G - Directed Studies) with the permission of a professor.
Master of Education - Project
Our Master of Education (MEd) project option consists of 8 courses (24 credits in total), and the completion of a 2-course research project (six credits).
You are required to take 2 Core Education courses:
- EDUC 5001G - Principles of Learning
- EDUC 5002G - Introduction to Research in Education
- EDUC 5003G - Research Proposal Seminar (optional but recommended)
You then choose 8 courses from ANY one of our 5 themes:
- Education and Digital Innovation
- Innovative Leadership in Education
- Critical Exploration of Learning
- Mental Health and Wellness
- Equity and Inclusion
