Program Overview

This diploma in accounting will teach you how to examine business from multiple angles and how to maximize your unique skill set. Industry professionals who work in the business accounting field will teach you how to balance the books in the manufacturing and merchandising sectors, banks, and other financial institutions. You'll also learn how to analyze numbers in public accounting firms and federal, provincial, and municipal government offices by using cutting-edge accounting software.

    Admission Requirements

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or a mature applicant with the following courses
      - Grade 12 English (C or U)
      - Grade 11 Math (C, U or M - minimum of 60%), or Grade 12 Math (C or U)
       
    • Students who do not meet the admission requirements are recommended for academic upgrading. A conditional offer may be possible with proof of enrolment. Alternatively, applicants missing the required courses may want to consider our one-year Business Fundamentals preparatory program. Upon graduation, students can enter level 2 of any business diploma program in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business.
       
    • Note:  Graduates of this program may choose to transfer into Fanshawe's Business Administration - Accounting Advanced Diploma or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) Degree programs after completing the bridging requirements.
    Your Learning Experience
     
    This two-year diploma in accounting is designed to prepare graduates to work in an accounting environment at the entry or intermediate accounting level. This accounting diploma program starts with accounting fundamentals and then moves to detailed accounting principles and concepts, including computerized accounting. When you graduate, you’ll have the skills required for success in a corporate accounting department in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, merchandising, small business accounting, banks and other financial institutions.
     
    You’ll also work in public accounting firms and federal, provincial and municipal government offices. This program is an ideal starting point for those seeking a career in accounting.
     
    Graduates who meet admission requirements are also eligible for transfer to the Business Administration - Accounting Advanced Diploma or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) Degree.
     
    Available in a traditional in-class format with September, January, February and May admissions or as a fully online business program, full-time or part-time. A co-op version of this program is also available.

    Career Information

    Graduates of Fanshawe’s Business – Accounting program are prepared for a variety of entry-level positions in the public, private or not-for-profit sectors, including accounting assistant, junior accountant, staff accountant, bookkeeper, assistant controller, accounts payable and receivable clerk, billing administrator and tax practitioner.
