Labour Relations
Description
Collective bargaining is a major feature of human resources management. The labour movement is important for employers in general because organized labour has an influence on public policy in matters ranging from health & safety and employment standards to broader social policy issues such as human rights and taxation. The collective bargaining process is good for those employers that have employees who are members of a certified bargaining unit and for those employees who choose to become members represented by a union. The purpose of this course is to provide students with a working knowledge of institutions and processes (both regulatory and non-regulatory) that govern the relationship between employers and employees in Ontario. The emphasis will be on the process of collective bargaining and grievance resolution.
