The Sustainability program examines how individuals, governments and businesses plan, design and implement sustainable practices. The program takes an encompassing approach by highlighting sustainability impacts on our environmental, economic and societal systems. You will learn about best practices, strategies and developments for living and working sustainably.

This program is geared toward individuals seeking to learn about sustainable practices, policies and leadership. ?You may select courses based on?your academic and professional backgrounds. Courses will be delivered online and will include:
- Instructor-led lectures and presentations
- Group discussions
- Individual and small group practical application activities
Each online course will be approximately 3 hours per week for a total of 10 hours. To qualify for a Certificate of Completion, students must complete a minimum of 30 hours of course content and evaluative components.

Program Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:
- Recognize the role of the individual, community and business within sustainable and environmental practices.
- Identify key issues within the sustainable movement, both locally and nationally.
- Connect local and national issues within the global environmental actions.
- Review primary policies and laws affecting sustainable practices.
- Understand the relationship between business and consumers for sustainable action.
- Examine practical tools, resources, strategies and techniques to develop sustainable living and working environments.
- Explore and apply various design views/approaches for responsible sustainable living and business development?.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Sustainability program, applicants must have:
- an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
- be a mature student as defined in the Undergraduate Calendar of McMaster University; or
- be deemed an exceptional case.
Open Enrolment
This program is an open enrolment program. There is no formal admission procedure. To enrol in a course or the program, simply register online. Students should register at least three weeks before classes begin. Courses can be taken as part of a program or individually.

English Language Proficiency Requirements
If your first language is not English, you must meet the university’s English language proficiency requirements.
Earn a Microcredential along with your Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of three out of four courses (minimum of 30 course hours), you will receive a microcredential to complement your non-academic certificate of completion. This microcredential will list all the skills you acquired during the courses for you to share and showcase to present and future employers.
