Admission requirements (for domestic students)

  • 1. Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (E/C/U) Level.
  • 2. or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment.
  • 3. or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED).
  • 4. or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) program

The one-year Pre-Health Certificate programs - offered in Fall 2021 through distance education and at all Confederation College campuses - is divided into two streams.

  • The Pathways to Certificates and Diplomas program (formerly "college stream") is for students who want to pursue college health programs including Practical Nursing, Paramedic, Medical Lab Assistant and Dental Hygiene.
  • The Pathways to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program (formerly "university stream") is designed to upgrade your skills and knowledge for a variety of university health programs including the Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Medical Radiation Technology.

  • Pathways to Certificates and Diplomas: Topics include pre-health math (college preparation), health care in Canada, chemistry, introductory biology and communications for health professionals.
  • Pathways to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees: Topics include pre-health math (university preparation), health care in Canada, advanced chemistry, human biology and communications for health professionals.

Upon completion of the certificate, you are eligible to apply to Health Science programs. Eligibility depends on academic achievement and specific program requirements.

Whether you need science credits to meet a program's admission requirements, or you would like to take a year to explore the science curriculum and think about next steps, the Pre-Health Sciences Programs offer a very useful opportunity to prepare before making the big decision to pursue a health career. Students are provided with the necessary understanding of biology, chemistry, mathematics and advanced communications skills to be successful in many health science programs.

Job opportunities

This program is generally used as a preparatory program that precedes additional education. Graduates may find employment in healthcare settings.
