Hospital Nursing Unit Clerk (Certificate)
Description
This certificate program prepares students for the challenging and rewarding career of providing clerical and administrative support for a hospital unit or health care institution. Students develop office management and business communications skills for the healthcare environment, and acquire a thorough understanding and ability to interpret and relay, information reporting, medical terminology, medical conditions, pharmacology, surgical procedures and medical tests. Students will also set up records for new patients, transcribe physicians' orders from patient records, and prepare requisition forms for laboratory tests, therapy, drugs and supplies for their unit. They record patient diagnoses on the appropriate medical forms and arrange for the transfer of patients within the unit or to other units. The focus is on the development of strong office support skills with emphasis on interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Admission Requirements
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) OR Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR
- Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older)
- You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
- A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.
