Early Childhood Education Diploma (213)
Description
Learn how to foster the physical, emotional and educational development of children in this rewarding career.
This part-time, blended (online and lecture-based) program has been designed to meet the needs of those who wish to pursue a career as an Early Childhood Educator or are already working in the field and wish to upgrade their qualifications. Graduates from this program are eligible to register with the College of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) upon graduation to obtain ECE designation.
The provincially-approved curriculum has been designed to develop the aptitudes, knowledge and skills ECEs need to work with, and support children and their families in their early educational experiences. Through a carefully designed program of studies that combines theory and hands-on practice in field placements, candidates prepare to create vibrant environments for young children, support exploration, inspire learning and nurture creativity.
Continuing Education students usually complete this program in two to three years, depending on how many courses they complete per a semester.
This program is also offered through Full Time Studies.
During program completion, students will complete three in-person placements. Potential and in-progress students must be aware that most agencies accepting clinical/placement students require you to be fully vaccinated with Health Canada approved vaccines and submit a Vulnerable Sector Check. Students are strongly encouraged to review placement expectations by visiting our Early Childhood Education Field Placement Information webpage.
Preplacement Requirements
If programs include a clinical, practicum, or field placement, students may be required to complete Preplacement Non-Academic Requirements (NARs). Full details will be provided in the course. This is an additional cost (above tuition/ancillary fees and textbooks). More information can be found on the Preplacement Services website and Early Childhood Education Field Placements Information page.
