Information for Existing Information Management, Privacy and Access (IMPA) Certificate Students
Effective September 1, 2024, the Certificate in Information Management, Privacy and Access (IMPA) will be phased out to make way for the new Certificate in Privacy and Information Management (PIM). The Certificate in Information Management, Privacy and Access will be officially discontinued December 31, 2029.
If you have successfully completed 2350105 – Fundamentals of Privacy, Information Management, and Access on or before August 31, 2024, you may continue your studies toward your intended IMPA Certificate and apply for the certificate prior to December 31, 2030.
If you have not taken 2350105 – Fundamentals of Privacy, Information Management, and Access as part of your intended IMPA Certificate on or before August 31, 2024, you can apply your successfully completed courses toward the new Privacy and Information Management (PIM) Certificate.
Gain a sound understanding of the legislation affecting personal privacy, and access to and management of information and records.
Utilizing best practices, you will develop the necessary skills to design and deliver effective privacy and information management programs, policies and procedures. Emphasis is placed on the importance of vigilance surrounding privacy protection, data security, and risk management, so you can develop practical skills to improve security and minimize risk and breaches.
While more broadly applicable, courses focus on a public sector context and utilize examples from school board and municipal environments.
The program requires the completion of four required courses. You must receive a passing grade of 50% or more for each of the four courses to earn this certificate.
