Substantive and Stylistic Editing
Description
This course focuses on the improvement of book-length manuscripts for publication. Emphasis is on the techniques and best practices for editing nonfiction and literary fiction, but a full range of editorial topics will be covered, including editorial roles and skill sets; evaluating and acquiring manuscripts; the editor-author relationship; editing for digital media; stylistic editing for different genres; freelance and in-house expectations; and the editor’s role in other aspects of the publishing workflow.
