Research Design and Methods

In the Introduction to Qualitative Research Method courses students will be introduced to the history and theory behind qualitative methods. Students will learn to recognize when qualitative methods are most appropriate for a research study; how qualitative research studies are designed; why a particular qualitative research methodology is chosen; and, how that methodology is then carried out. Students will be introduced to methods such as observation, in depth interviewing and unobstructed research. How qualitative data is analysed will also be covered in the course. Finally, students will investigate the interpretation of results the writing up of findings and the effective communication of data.
