Professional Growth II
Description
This course builds upon the themes presented in (PN 125) and continues to foster an advanced discussion of the Practical Nurse's professional roles and responsibilities. A large portion of this course is devoted to the learner's understanding of the College of Nurses of Ontario's (CNO) practice standards, practice guidelines, and essential nursing behaviours; self regulation, quality assurance, and delegation; and the federal/provincial laws and acts which govern nursing practice in Ontario. The learner will be introduced to the concepts of personal and professional values, beliefs, opinions, and needs; leading and managing; conflict resolution and ethical dilemmas; patient advocacy; and political action. The learner will also engage and participate in a community of practice, where learners will self reflect; engage with other learners and health care leaders in collaborative practice; and explore an issue or trend effecting nursing practice. Culminating this course will be preparing for the CNO's Jurisprudence Exam and the transition from student to Registered Practical Nurse. This course will support the knowledge, skills, judgment, and nursing attitudes required during all simulation (scenarios) experiences that occur throughout the Practical Nursing program.
