Post-Modern Models

Description

Examine three major post-modern theories that continue to shape the field of family therapy. Gain a brief historical overview of the shift from modernism to post-modernism, exploring the philosophy, theory and application of Collaborative, Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapies. Integration of these models with other models of family therapy will be considered, as well as some wider application to community-based work. The course models what it teaches, emphasizing a collaborative approach to teaching and learning. You are invited to take part in a variety of active learning methods, including didactic presentation, discussion, practice exercises, role play, debate, and video demonstration. You will be encouraged to reflect on course content and discuss how theories presented can be integrated into your own practice. This course is designed for counsellors, therapists, social workers, mental health workers, and pastoral care/faith-based and other practitioners seeking to build or enhance their practical skills and theoretical foundation in couple and family therapy, as well as those exploring therapy as a career. This course is typically recognized by CAMFT and AAMFT as a therapy course.
