Post-Anaesthesia Care Nursing
Description
This course addresses post-anaesthesia nursing care from admission to discharge. Various anaesthetic techniques will be discussed, as will post-anaesthesia nursing care for various surgical specialties. The use of specialized monitoring equipment and data interpretation will also be covered. Other topics include the assessment and management of post-operative pain, care of patients with thermal imbalance, care of the shock trauma patient and airway management.
There is a placement assignment in the last theory PACU course which consists of observing a surgery; then the practicum course follows. Students going into the PACU course must either work in a hospital or clinic where surgery is performed or obtained clearance from Centennial College Paramed service in order for us to find you the placement (police check takes three months).
