Pathophysiology I
Description
This course introduces the learner to the pathophysiology of disease and how it relates to patients experiencing acute illnesses across the lifespan. The learner will examine basic pathophysiological concepts, including cellular adaptation; inflammation, infection, and healing; fluid and electrolyte balance; acid-base balance; shock; and pain. Using a case study approach, the learner will study common pathogenesis relevant to acute illness. Furthermore, this course will underscore that some acute illnesses are secondary to chronic health challenges, apply relevant medical terminology, and highlight standard diagnostic testing. This course will support the knowledge, skills, judgment, and nursing attitudes required during all simulation (scenarios) experiences throughout the Practical Nursing program.
