Museum Leadership Strategies for Ethical and Meaningful Community Engagement Micro-Credential
Description
Museums are in crisis. Now more than ever, the structure and nature of museums, museum work and more specifically museum leadership has been called out by academics, museum professionals, community members, and activists to transform museums into cultural institutions that are more inclusive, ethical, and less harmful to historically marginalized communities. This micro-credential examines leadership models that museum professionals around the world are using to engage with members of priority communities ethically and meaningfully. Through representative case studies and discussions with institutional leaders, practitioners, academics, and community members, this micro-credential delves into topics such as decolonization, Indigenization, co-curation, oral history, contemporary collecting, inclusive design, and conflict resolution, to illustrate a vibrant and evolving museum leadership practice taking place in different corners of the globe. This micro-credential has been developed in collaboration with the Toronto History Museums and the Canadian Museums Association.
