Level I: CBT for Chronic Illness and Diabetes Management
Description
Chronic disease illness and pain impacts the lives of as many as 25% of people at any given time. Studies show the mind body connection to greatly impact recovery and pain experience as well as inflammatory responses. CBT for chronic illness and diabetes management will focus on how to use foundational and advanced CBT techniques to decrease experiences of pain manage the physical and mental impacts of chronic illness and to help improve diabetes management and outcomes. Research psychosocial assessment conceptualization cognitive restructuring exposure therapy and behaviour change interventions will all focus specifically on chronic illness and diabetes management. Additional lessons will focus on caregiver support and burn out building a collaborative relationship between patients and health care professionals and diabetes management for indigenous populations. Participants will complete the course with thorough individual and group treatment plans and strategies to begin immediately helping improve the quality of life for persons struggling with the mental and physical impacts of chronic pain chronic illness and diabetes and provide hope for improved long-term health.
