Description

This course provides students with an in-depth understanding of international banking and financial systems and structures, and regulatory policies overseeing these systems. It discusses and analyzes the business implications of the global integration of international capital markets, the mobility of capital, and the use of complex financial products, including derivatives. As well, the course includes an examination of the causes and consequences of financial crises, most recently the crisis of 2007-2008. Students learn how to assess possible changes in the international financial markets and how to determine their likely impact on business operations. Students also develop skills in evaluating and managing the financial risks inherent in shifts in foreign exchange rates, in fluctuations in interest rates, in changes to the policies of financial institutions, and in national monetary policy management, among others.
