Foundations in Child and Youth Care
Description
This is an introductory course to the field of Child & Youth Care. The content of this course includes: the history of the profession, the unique roles of the Child & Youth Care worker and how these roles have evolved, a framework to view mental health and mental illness, exploration of the student’s professional identity, managing therapeutic relationships, and developing appropriate boundaries and ethics as a professional.
The theory and application of beginning Child and Youth Work practice will be explored, as will the theory and practice of therapeutic programming, and behaviour management.
