Description
Our Fact-checking Online Media Sources course provides you with the tools you need to screen and evaluate online media sources (including social media feeds and video posts) for credibility, accuracy, authority, timeliness, and agenda (or bias). These skills have become increasingly important not only for academics and journalists but also for non-fiction, fiction, and technical writers navigating myriad digital sources in this era of "fake news." Intended for writers, editors, and researchers, this fact-checking course teaches you the tricks that journalists use to evaluate web sources – from understanding the hierarchy of web domain extensions to looking for website quality markers that establish credibility or objectivity. It also teaches you how to substantiate source material through secondary sources, quality checklists, and other tools.
