Emergency Nursing - Special Populations

Description

This course discusses the needs of clients who present to the emergency department with unique and complex healthcare concerns that require specialized and advanced nursing and interprofessional care. In some cases, these clients are part of a marginalized or vulnerable population and the nurse must demonstrate strong leadership and autonomy when delivering and managing the required interventions and supports. Some topics include, but are not limited to: Oncology; Immunology; Toxicology; Critical Illness; Mental Health; and emergent Older Adult syndromes. Assessment, management, and education regarding acute and chronic pain are also addressed. To be successful with all learning objectives, each student is required to participate fully in all individual and collaborative learning activities.
