Coop/Employment Preparedness

Submitting a resume online often leads to disappointing results, as most positions are filled by personal recommendation — commonly referred to as the “hidden” job market. In this course, students will learn strategic career development skills.

Students will build on their current knowledge of communication skills and networking tips to learn to obtain professional designations and strategically network with industry leaders and experts. In-person students may participate in live networking events, while online learners will arrange virtual coffee chats with industry experts and attend video conferencing events.    

Students will also improve their cover letter, resume, business card, and portfolio, email and social media writing, and career-specific soft skills. Interview strategies, business etiquette and best workplace practices will round out this prerequisite for the program’s optional co-op component.
