Description
Advocacy is an important strategy for improving the well-being of children. Child & Youth Care workers work with children who are in trouble, vulnerable and usually with a traumatic history. Child & Youth Care workers need to ensure that the rights of all children are protected.
Students will interpret, debate and evaluate: advocacy, current protective legislation; youth justice; children’s rights; the rights of children in care; laws that govern Children’s Mental Health; laws that govern the Education Act; and other current issues that govern the CYC profession. An overview of the Canadian political structure will be provided to enable the student to understand such issues as funding, Ministerial responsibility, and levels of government.
Note: Check with the institution regarding start/end dates, prices, and delivery method. These may vary according to program, section, and/or semester.
